Detailed Description
The name Spios, which is Scots Gaelic for ‘spice’, beautifully evokes this whisky’s origins: it has been matured solely in casks that previously held American rye whiskey, a spirit known for its distinctive, spicy characteristics. Spios has a herbal nose and a rich, spicy palate, followed by a long, sweet finish.Glenmorangie Spios is the ninth limited edition bottling in the distillery’s Private Edition series, and the first single malt to have ever been entirely matured in American rye whiskey casks.
Glenmorangie Spios Private Edition 9 Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes
Nose: Glenmorangie Spios first entices with its fresh and herbal nose, hinting at cherry, clove and mint toffee, followed by scents of green grass. A splash of water releases more perfumed notes, both crisp and clean – and an inviting complexity of herbal tones.
Palate: The taste almost is really just a short beginning that crescendos and transitions extremely smoothly into the finish.
Finish: This is a very light and refreshing malt.
Distillery Information
The Glenmorangie distillery was established in 1843, on the Dornoch Firth by brothers William and John Matheson. The site originally held a farm distillery under the name Morangie. There is evidence that distillation was carried out at this site during the early 18th century. Production began in November of 1849. During the latter part of the 19th century Glenmorangie began overseas exportation and destinations included Europe and the United States.
