THE VINTAGE
The Dom Perignon Vintage 2010 showcases the uniqueness of this particular year. With the lowest temperatures since 1996, the early part of the year presented a contrast. Winter frosts and a cool spring reminded us of the vineyard’s northerly latitude. However, a hot summer with infrequent rain resulted in a particularly dry year.
In mid-August, everything shifted dramatically. Two days of heavy rain, equivalent to two months’ worth of precipitation, revitalized the vineyard. The combination of heat and water expedited maturation, although botrytis mold attacked the pinot noir grapes during harvest.
Despite the challenges, the grapes achieved an elevated balance, encompassing both sweetness and acidity. While some parcels needed to be left out or sorted, the result is a vintage rich in contrasts.
TASTING NOTES
On the nose: Immerse your senses in the luminous sweetness of tropical fruit, including green mango, melon, and pineapple. Delight in the tingle of orange zest and mist of mandarin orange. As the wine breathes, experience its refreshing aura reminiscent of blooming flowers, from peony and jasmine to lilac.
On the palate: Prepare for an awe-inspiring presence as the wine unfolds with its ample, full, and massive body. Savor the sappy sensation that quickly gives way to aromatic notes. Enjoy the balance of generosity, firmness, and control. Witness the contracting nature that allows this Champagne to vibrate with spices and pepper before culminating in a scintillating and saline finish.
